Hyperfixation

I was delighted when a fellow neurodivergent designer in my community reached out with a suggested topic for this series. “Hyperfixations” are often characterized as obsessions, where the individual is completely absorbed in a particular task or subject, without regard to external needs or stimuli. Some individuals and care providers attempt to restrict or tamp down fixations that aren't perceived as mainstream or of societal value. Many neurodivergent people, myself included, have a propensity to hyperfixate.
